The Rhode Island Blood Center held its High School Heroes Ceremony and Scituate High School was awarded the Comeback award for starting to hold blood drives again during the 2022-23 school year! HOSA was also recognized as a blood center partner. Over the last few weeks, students in Introduction to Engineering Design have learned how to use Computer Aided Design by following instructions to build a tank. In the process of building the tank, students were required to learn and regularly use terms like "extrude," "loft," "concentric," "helix," and "tangent," among others. As students got further into the project, they were given more independent challenges and the ability to customize their tank.

HOSA members were asked to attend the Family Medicine Education Consortium on Saturday! Maggie Collins, Abby Chatelle, Sam Duarte, Ella Werbecki and Brady Benedict-Smith presented their HOSA projects from the past year to physicians and residents from around the country. On Friday members of SHS HOSA traveled to Johnson and Wales to attend the Fall Leadership Conference. Members attended workshops in the morning and took part in networking and leadership sessions in the afternoon. Students in Mrs. Dailey's Geometry and AP Calculus classes spent some time collaborating with classmates last week! The Geometry students spent time on a scenario-based activity in which groups of students had maps of a section of a neighborhood and had to determine the best plan for digging to connect houses to underground utilities while using the minimum amount of cable. The AP Calculus students spent time on a graphing activity in which students had to sketch estimated tangent lines at different points on the graph of a function or determine that a tangent was not possible at that point. The results led to a discussion of the formal definition of derivatives. #ScituateSpartans #SpartanPride #BeASpartan #ScituateRI

Over the previous two weeks, students showed that they could safely and effectively use every knob and button on every woodworking power tool in the workshop! They did this by observing and practicing a given procedure until they could demonstrate it exactly.
