North Scituate's Mrs. Grissom won a Recess Visit from College Athletes through Recess Rocks in Rhode Island (RRRI). On Friday, April 4th, Bryant College athletes joined students for recess to play games and talk about teamwork and being a good sport! They helped make recess EXTRA fun! Huge thank you to Karin Wetherill (RI Healthy Schools Coalition), Jessi & Margaux (Playworks coaches), and the Bryant Athletes for making this possible!

14 students at Hope earned a pizza party for having tremendous attendance at school during Trimester 2! Congratulations to all!

The Girls Lacrosse Team visited students at Clayville Elementary last Friday to help students start their day off with smiles and high-fives! Clayville students were thrilled to see them.

Physical Science students at SHS were engaged in learning about light and optics during a lesson taught by Mr. Guertin from Rhode Island College (RIC) during his final week of student teaching.
A few of the stations included: light dispersion, refraction & color mixing and the science of shadows. Although many of the students have observed or experienced these phenomena on their own, Mr. Guertin's lesson explained the mechanism behind each of them with this kinesthetic lab.

Congratulations to our middle school students who earned Spartan Shout-outs this past week!

A reminder that the NHS and RIHS induction ceremony is on Wednesday, May 7, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium! Family and friends are welcome to attend--no tickets or reservations are required.
NHS members met this week for an hour of service. Some members helped stuff catnip toys to be donated to the Friends of the Scituate Animal Shelter. The toys will be sold at the Scituate Art Festival to benefit the Scituate Animal Shelter.
Some members helped prepare programs for the upcoming NHS Induction ceremony, while others gathered positive notes that will be given to high school teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week.

A group of 28 travelers including World Language students, chaperones, and parents went to France during April break! They toured many famous sites including The Eiffel Tower, The Arc de Triomphe, The Louvre, Omaha Beach in Normandy, and several chateaux and cathedrals, walking a total of over 45 miles over the course of the trip!

Mr. Lee from the Scituate Watershed Education program visited Hope students to educate 3rd graders on keeping the Scituate Reservoir and the surrounding watershed clean. Students had the opportunity to manipulate a model to learn about how pollutants affect the environment and reservoir!

Students at North Scituate debated on the topic of "Should children be paid for chores, yes or no?" Students picked a side, then researched and argued it. Prior to the debate, students brainstormed sentence starters with their teacher. There were three jobs for each team, and students discussed who would take on each job. Principal Soccio was impressed to see the level of respect for each other's opinions while arguing their own points. Students worked well together to ensure everyone's voice was heard.

Under the guidance of Hope Art Teacher, Mrs. McCann, students in grades K-5 have been creating a beautiful mural on the wall in the K-2 hallway! Each student designed their own flower representing something about them, used transfer paper to copy their design onto the wall, and then added color and detail to their design on the wall!

The author Jen Calonita, a Scholastic and Disney author, did a virtual visit with Ms. Cuttle's 4th grade class at North Scituate Elementary! Students read one of her books as a full-class read-aloud before this visit, and the students had so many questions to ask. They really enjoyed the time with her and are looking forward to her newest book, Island of Ever, coming out this month. As well as her next The Taylors book that will be at the book fair in the fall!

Another successful High-Five Friday at North Scituate Elementary School! Thank you to our HOSA Club and Biomedical students for spreading some smiles and high-fives to our elementary students.

In Mrs. DiLuglio's class at North Scituate Elementary, students who earn 250 Class Dojo points get to be the Teacher-of-the-Day. Favorite activities include leading Morning Meeting, reading aloud to the class, and choosing partners to work with in their own teacher space!

We are excited to share that Conor, a kindergarten student from Hope, had the lucky Feinstein Golden Ticket number pulled recently! As a winner of the Golden Ticket, Conor has won a $5,000 grant for Hope Elementary and has chosen to donate a $500 grant to "A Shedding Chance Reptile Rescue". He chose this organization because "I want to be a lizard vet when I grow up. I need to help those sick lizards.” Congratulations, Conor!

Students in Grades K-2 at Hope have been loving the after-school coding club!

Mrs. O'Grady's Second Grade Mathematicians at North Scituate Elementary used Place Value Disks to add and subtract within 200. Great teamwork!

The 2025 Freshman Leadership Academy was tons of fun and a huge success! Thank you to Mr. Reed and the PE Department! Students took chances and showed grit while building trust through positive communication! Great work, freshman, the future is bright at SHS!
