Don Pepperd was honored as part of a celebration of Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) history month at the State House on May 13. He created and developed the Perspectives in East Asia course and has proven time and again to be a top notch educator at Scituate High School. Congratulations Mr. Pepperd!

Congratulations to our North Scituate students who earned positive office referrals last month!

The Working With Children class was busy last week! Students completed their puppets, and on Thursday, the class met their third grade pen pals and enjoyed games and activities. Thank you to Mrs. DiLuglio, who let our Working With Children class visit her classroom! All students had an enjoyable time, and so did the teachers!

Hope students in Grades K-2 wanted to show their support for our 3rd-5th graders during Math RICAS testing. Grades K-2 threw a glow in the dark dance party for our ROCKSTAR students taking Math RICAS.

This morning, we enjoyed a lovely breakfast with our Top 10 academic achievers and their families! We are so proud of how hard these students have worked. Make sure to read about each of them in the Valley Breeze. Congratulations to all!

The grade 7 team, along with Mr. Brian Sheehan, our CTE Coordinator, visited the Submarine Force Museum earlier this month. Students had the opportunity to tour the USS Nautilus, the world's first nuclear-powered submarine, and explore interactive exhibits at the museum. This educational visit exposed students to various career pathways in naval engineering, marine science, and military service while connecting to our classroom curriculum. The field trip was being funded by a CTE grant through the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE), our SMS PTO, and the Feinstein Foundation!

The 6th and 7th grade enrichment classes took part in the annual Scituate Reservoir Poster Contest. This year's theme was Ephemeral Streams: The Stream Less Travelled. The winners from the middle school joined the Agricultural Club as leaders at the Water Festival put on last week by the Northern Rhode Island Conservation District, and helped out the third graders from Scituate and neighboring towns. Congratulations to the winner, Julia Bianco, and our two honorable mentions, Elsie Cheng and Paige Davis.

The Foreign and Regional Foods students have been preparing meals from many countries throughout the world! Last week, they prepared chicken fried rice, pot stickers, and cinnamon roll danish.

Clayville Fourth and fifth graders were excited to spend some time with the SHS Band and Chorus! This is another step in the fifth-grade transition process. Students can choose to take band or chorus during their middle school experience.

North Scituate's Mrs. Grissom won a Recess Visit from College Athletes through Recess Rocks in Rhode Island (RRRI). On Friday, April 4th, Bryant College athletes joined students for recess to play games and talk about teamwork and being a good sport! They helped make recess EXTRA fun! Huge thank you to Karin Wetherill (RI Healthy Schools Coalition), Jessi & Margaux (Playworks coaches), and the Bryant Athletes for making this possible!

14 students at Hope earned a pizza party for having tremendous attendance at school during Trimester 2! Congratulations to all!

The Girls Lacrosse Team visited students at Clayville Elementary last Friday to help students start their day off with smiles and high-fives! Clayville students were thrilled to see them.

Physical Science students at SHS were engaged in learning about light and optics during a lesson taught by Mr. Guertin from Rhode Island College (RIC) during his final week of student teaching.
A few of the stations included: light dispersion, refraction & color mixing and the science of shadows. Although many of the students have observed or experienced these phenomena on their own, Mr. Guertin's lesson explained the mechanism behind each of them with this kinesthetic lab.

Congratulations to our middle school students who earned Spartan Shout-outs this past week!
