A reminder that the NHS and RIHS induction ceremony is on Wednesday, May 7, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium! Family and friends are welcome to attend--no tickets or reservations are required. NHS members met this week for an hour of service. Some members helped stuff catnip toys to be donated to the Friends of the Scituate Animal Shelter. The toys will be sold at the Scituate Art Festival to benefit the Scituate Animal Shelter. Some members helped prepare programs for the upcoming NHS Induction ceremony, while others gathered positive notes that will be given to high school teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week.

Students at North Scituate debated on the topic of "Should children be paid for chores, yes or no?" Students picked a side, then researched and argued it. Prior to the debate, students brainstormed sentence starters with their teacher. There were three jobs for each team, and students discussed who would take on each job. Principal Soccio was impressed to see the level of respect for each other's opinions while arguing their own points. Students worked well together to ensure everyone's voice was heard.

Under the guidance of Hope Art Teacher, Mrs. McCann, students in grades K-5 have been creating a beautiful mural on the wall in the K-2 hallway! Each student designed their own flower representing something about them, used transfer paper to copy their design onto the wall, and then added color and detail to their design on the wall!

The author Jen Calonita, a Scholastic and Disney author, did a virtual visit with Ms. Cuttle's 4th grade class at North Scituate Elementary! Students read one of her books as a full-class read-aloud before this visit, and the students had so many questions to ask. They really enjoyed the time with her and are looking forward to her newest book, Island of Ever, coming out this month. As well as her next The Taylors book that will be at the book fair in the fall!

We are excited to share that Conor, a kindergarten student from Hope, had the lucky Feinstein Golden Ticket number pulled recently! As a winner of the Golden Ticket, Conor has won a $5,000 grant for Hope Elementary and has chosen to donate a $500 grant to "A Shedding Chance Reptile Rescue". He chose this organization because "I want to be a lizard vet when I grow up. I need to help those sick lizards.” Congratulations, Conor!
